Lost, lonely, hopeless and scared. Disappointed, regretful, hurt, and frustrated. Angry, impatient, scornful, and doubtful. The list goes on and on, and so does the meaningless life that you have been living. Well, at least that is how you have been feeling. But be careful because feelings can be deceptive!
Usually, the first deceptive thought that negative emotions give birth to is that you are the only one with the issue. News flash, you are not the first, only, or last. Actually, this is a phase of life that many of us are living; even more of us have experienced it at some point in time in our lives. Sadly, only a few of us are honest enough to admit it.
During this time two questions echo more and louder in our minds than any others, “When will this be over?” and “What is my answer?”. The answer to these questions are not precisely the same for every individual, but we all get on the same interstate to arrive to our designated exits. This interstate is no different than any other, there is no PARKING!!! You got it! It’s time to put the car back in drive, even if there is only a little gas in your tank. Your fill up will come, but only if you don’t decide to quit.
Many times the key to knowing when it is over is remembering when it started. Think about it, sometimes the best door to use as an exit is the same door you used to enter. You may have made the decision to get on this roller coaster, but the right has been reserved for you to get off. It’s your decision. You can make the decision to forgive. You can make the decision to get help. Make the decision to return to your loved ones. Make the decision to admit you were wrong, even if they were too. Make the decision to end this reckless relationship. Make the decision to quit the drugs. Make the decision to stop the drinking. Make the decision to try again. Make the decision to come to the Lord! The answer to “When is this going to be over?” is “When you decide to take the steps necessary to reach the exit.”
God’s Word says, “No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it. (1Cor. 10:13 MSG)”
Your answer is not complicated at all. In fact, it’s a one word solution. The answer to your predicament is Jesus. He is the only permanent solution. Sure, drugs will help you to escape for a while. A new job can soothe you for a season. Sex can ease you for a moment. Friends can keep you company for a night. Venting can relieve you for a time, but Jesus is the only permanent answer made available to you. He can lead you to the exit door of rage, disappointment, confusion, fear, loneliness, pain, frustration, impatience, and any other issue that you may have. The others only make false claims; they never deliver.
Jesus said, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.(Matt 11:28-30 MSG)”
So do you want to know when? Well, it could be today! Do you want to know how and what? The answer is simple, “The saving power of Christ!”
