Failed for the 500th time? Well, it is official you are a FAILURE! If that’s not obvious by now, then I don’t know what to tell ya. Although, there is some good news, the amount of times you’ve failed has nothing to do with it. Truth be told, the whole idea that you could be a success was a lie, anyway. Well, it was a lie in part. Keep reading, I’ll explain what I mean.
You may have heard this before, but it bears repeating. True success is not determined by the number of your personal achievements. Okay, maybe you never heard that before, but now you have. What I’m really trying to say is, this society over emphasizes the tabulated “success” vs. “failure” stats on each individual. You know how the game goes, “You’ve done this. You haven’t done that. Sometimes you do this. Okay, your scores are back, and you’re a FAILURE!” But what is often overlooked is that you would still be a failure even if you did fit the description for the world’s definition of success.
Jesus pointed out the flaw in the system years ago. He rhetorically asked, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
The answer, if you are one that just has to have an answer, is nothing. Nothing will amount to anything for you if you have not secured your eternal soul. Nothing! No money! No degree! No swag! No sexual exploit! No pull! No popularity contest! Nothing will make you a success in life apart from securing your eternal soul by a reconciled relationship with God. That is the only thing that will make you a success, and if you fail at that, then you have failed at life. Period! Point blank! The end!
The truth is, as people, we cannot be successful without a relationship with God. We can be successful by our own standards, but since our standards have no bearing on the judgment that will be placed on our life, our standards are worthless. Our standards are kind of like Monopoly money. Monopoly money is worth something, but only when you are playing Monopoly. Which means it is really worthless. You’ll only play Monopoly for a micro-fraction of the time you spend living on Earth, so the value of its currency is insignificant. The same is true of society’s criteria for success; it can only be applied to the smallest and most insignificant part of your life, so don’t rate your worth by it. In the large scheme of things, your achievements apart from God’s will mean zip, zero. Christ, and Christ alone makes a failure into a success.
Lu 12:15 And Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
