I can imagine that there will be those that are skeptical about this young man’s transformation. In fact, in many instances people doubt the true heart changes of people, even when a person claims he was changed by God. You have heard the sayings, “Once a thief, always a thief.” or “Once a liar, always a liar.” These are definitely catchy expressions, but the question is, “Are they absolute fact?”
People live in a constant state of change. Our bodies, minds, and heart are changing for better or worse daily. Change is nothing new to us. As a whole, we frequently change hair styles, clothes, sexual partners, jobs, schools, utility services, churches, hang out spots and many other things. For many of us, we change these things without a second thought. Actually, many people quickly become discontent if there is not a significant level of change happening in their life. A whole lot of people try changing things simply because they are bored with their life.
With all the changes that happen, and can potentially happen in people’s lives, sometimes we grow desensitized to the concept of change. Consequently, we lump all change in one category. We fail to acknowledge that life’s changes can have different degrees of impact on an individual’s life. For example, there is huge difference between changing your wardrobe and changing your spouse, but both are legitimate changes. Although, changing your wardrobe will not have the impact on your life that changing your spouse will. I know some of you don’t agree with that, but that is a whole other issue.
When a man has genuinely been changed by God he has been changed on a level far beyond any change he will ever undergo. His spirit has been made new. He has not just had a bright ideal or simply made a firm determination in thought. That’s only part of it. That one decision to genuinely choose Jesus to govern his life has changed and altered who he is in the inside; much like the claims of the young man in the video above.
People that have been changed by God do not simply choose to join church or decide that church is a “good thing” to do for now. No, those people have literally had the deepest spiritual experience that can happen to a person. An experience that is no less literal than a mother conceiving a child. Even though, you cannot see a woman has conceived a baby in her womb, it has happened none the less. Though, most of the time you don’t have any outward evidence, if you give it time it will certainly begin to show.
In the Message Bible Ezekiel 36:26 says, I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands. (Check this scripture in the King James Version)
You see God does not want to just change what we do and how we think. He wants to change our nature. He wants to change who we are, so that we can live the life he truly has for us to live. You can rest assured that life is far better and more satisfying than any life we can choose for ourselves.
Never become so desensitized to change that you underestimate what someone is saying when he says, “I have been changed by God”. He is not talking about a change like changing your residency, your car, or your job, absolutely not! Those are all exterior changes that only have a temporary effect an individual’s life. He is saying he has had an interior change. God has given him a new heart, and therefore a new life that will carry him into eternity. What changes have you made that you are confident you can carry into the next life?
